🍃 Special Highlights of the Retreat

As part of our journey together, we will embark on a 2-day, 1-night trip to the Inner Mongolian grasslands, where vast skies meet endless fields. This sacred land offers us a rare opportunity to immerse ourselves in local festivals, breathe in the wild expanse, and reconnect with the rhythms of nature. Expect open space, deep listening, and moments of quiet awe.

Because of Jerigtu’s long-standing relationships in these communities, we will have a remarkable and unique opportunity to meet with special guests—shamans and local healers—who will generously share glimpses into their ancestral practices. These sessions are invitations to witness, experience, and honor traditional ways of healing and connection. Some may include ritual, song, or guided journeys, woven with care and respect.

These special moments are designed to open new pathways within and beyond—anchoring us more deeply in presence, culture, and the living spirit of the land.

    4. Local Food:

Mongolians make their wide array of traditional milk products exclusively from their ancient breed of cows. The milk production from these cows is only one tenth of what it is from the new breed of cows. But the ancient breed of cows is naturally suited for this environment, and with systematic migrations, they do not get sick easily and consequently do not need excessive antibiotics. People who had been allergic to milk in the West have not had any reactions to milk products here.

Here animals grow up walking great distances while eating wide array of herbs. Their bodies contain higher levels of unsaturated fat. Unlike the white-colored fat that can cause hyperlipidemia and arteriosclerosis, the local cows’ fat appears slightly yellow, and is beneficial for our brain development.

Mongolians have special ways to humanely end animals’ lives, so there is no fear released into the animals’ system, therefore not passed onto humans. And everything in the animal is utilized.

Lamb and beef are cooked in the simplest way, with no spice other than salt. The original flavor of food resets our taste buds for pureness.

The main grain consumed by Mongolians is particular to the area. The millet-like grain has very low production rate, and there is no known translation in English for this grain. It’s no longer known in China as well. The grain improves our digestive functions while tasting nutty, crunchy and delicious.

Local vegetables, wild herbal greens and fruits are also readily available. Vegetarian and non-dairy meals are available. For any special needs, please give advance notice.

    5. Local Climate & What to Bring:

    For Chifeng area temperature:

    June-Aug. Average 22°C, low 16°C, high 28°C. (Avg. 72°F, Low 62°F, High 82°F)

    Sept. Avg. 16°C, Low 9°C, High 12°C. (Avg. 61°F, Low 49°F, High 73°F)

On the steppe there are many thorny plants with sticker seeds. We recommend you wear shoes that prickly sticker seeds don’t easily attach to, long pants and socks for the outside, and reserve shorts and sandals for the inside and paved areas.

Some can be bought in stores in Geriseng which is 10 minutes away from our center. There are local pharmacies with Western, Chinese and Mongolian medicine at Geriseng as well.
